The City of Austin says crews are still working to address a 21-inch wastewater line which overflowed and then ruptured in the Sierra Oaks neighborhood in Northwest Austin on Sunday. According to city officials, the spill dumped 100,000 gallons of sewage into a tributary in Bull Creek.
Until further notice, residents are advised to stay away from the creek near Great Hills Neighborhood Park. It’s also recommended residents stay away from the trail in that area, too.
While no impact to the drinking water has been reported, people who draw their water from private wells are being asked to boil their water if they live within a half-mile radius of the affected area.
Notices will be sent to residents updating them about the repair efforts.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is also investigating.
