South Austin Homeless Shelter Approved, Metro Home Prices Spike

Austin’s approves purchase of land and construction of a 2nd City Homeless Shelter…that will cost taxpayers 8.6-million .  The land is valued at closer to $3.6-million.  Despite heavy pushback from nearby residents and business owners, the city council voted unanimously to purchase the land and begin the process of transforming the property into the new shelter

Enforcement of Austin homeless ordinances will be scaled back following a lengthy debate at City Hall.  

Prior to the vote, some council members stood amid a large group of community activists who were demanding an end punishments for things like camping in public.  Council members Greg Casar and Delia Garza were among the speakers.

Revising the panhandling, sit-and-lie, and camping ordinances won unanimous approval from the council.  Police will now have to issue official warnings to homeless people before they can issue any tickets.

America warned commercial airliners that they could be mistakenly attacked. The drone shootdown reflects a dangerous escalation in already spiking tensions between Washington and Iran.

The Austin Board of REALTORS released the May 2019 Central Texas Housing Market Report Thursday. The report revealed that Austin homes are pricier than ever amid declining inventory.  

The median price of a single-family home in the city of Austin reached an all-time high of $407,400. This set a new record for the Austin Board of REALTORS monthly housing reports.

However, a decline in both new and active listings in Austin were discovered, along with a 3.4 percent drop in home sales.

A Texas police officer has been shot and killed in what officials say was the line of duty, and a suspect is in custody. The Texas Department of Public Safety says the Mission police officer was shot Thursday night in the eastern part of the city 6 miles west of McAllen, in South Texas. Mission police Lt. Art Flores says the officer, whose identity hasn’t been released, died later at a McAllen hospital.
