South Austin SWAT call ends peacefully

SWAT Vest, with handcuffs, pistol and bullets

A SWAT standoff ended peacefully in a South Austin home Sunday morning. APD was called in after neighbors of a home near the Dittmar and Manchaca intersection complained about a man screaming in the street. When officers arrived the man went into his home, barricaded himself in and threatened to kill the responding officers, of which one reported hearing the man handling a gun. Officer Bino Cadenas said that’s when the neighbors were evacuated from their homes and SWAT and negotiators were brought in.

Cadenas reported the man locked himself in with some of his own family, but they were evacuated during the 3+ hour standoff.

In the end the unnamed 29-year-old gave himself up to police, and families were allowed back in their homes. Cadenas said the man was detained and taken to an area hospital to be evaluated, mentally and physically. The man does not face any charges.
