Still debate in the RR school district over a new district Police Department

This is a discussion that has gone on now since last year.  At issue is whether or not the district should have a dedicated police force once the Round Rock Police Department rescinds its current security detail by 2021.

At last night’s public meeting, the majority of people spoke against a district police force.

Parent Marshall Sprig was among the opposition, claiming this will only bring more tension and anxiety to the schools.

Others worry the job won’t attract the most qualified officers due to a lack of job growth opportunity.

A second meeting will be held tonight at Cedar Ridge High School.

Soon, a task force will deliver 3-5 recommendations to the school board.

A police department is estimated to cost $2.7-million
