Tentative Police Contract Set for Council Discussion

The City of Austin and the Austin Police Association reached a Tentative Agreement on Monday, Sept. 23, for a five-year contract. With many months of negotiations now in the books, the Austin City Council is set to consider that contract at a meeting later this month.

Originally it was announced that the agreement would be scheduled for consideration by the Austin City Council on October 10. But following concerns raised over the length of time the public has had to view the proposal, city leaders later made the decision to push the vote back until October 24. If approved by the city council, it will then go to police union members for ratification.

A briefing on the proposal is scheduled for the Tuesday city council work session.
