Tx Senate look into Austin’s plan to turn a WilCo. Hotel into Homeless shelter

Austin’s purchase of the Candlewood Suites hotel in Williamson County is now under discussion at the Capitol.

Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell is among several elected officials to testify in support of Senate Bills 646 and 796, both of which came to life after Austin’s purchase of that property. “They simply walked into Williamson County and put down $9.5 million for a hotel. Something they’ve been planning for two years and I’ve have had no conversation, in fact as county judge, I have still yet to receive a call from the Austin Mayor.”

Both bills have been filed by Georgetown State Senator Charles Schwertner. SB 796 requires a public hearing on these projects, and 646 requires cities to provide a draft plan for approval to county leaders.
