The Travis County Republican party saw big donations in the months leading up to President Trump’s acquittal.
The County GOP’s Executive Director Brian Reynolds says the whole impeachment process energized Republicans and Democrats, and that energy has maintained, but left more work to be done down ballot as Texas goes through a primary next month. “Going forward, the Republican Party of Texas, they are really starting to invest in Travis County. Because they know that, we cannot afford to have Travis County be a Democrat stronghold to the existent that it was last election cycle for [Beto O’Rourke].” Reynolds said the March Primary will dictate how the local GOP acts as November nears.
On the other side of the aisle Austin area State Rep. Celia Israel (D) says Democrats have a real chance at turning Texas blue. “Just to remind all of us, in 2018…not only Travis County, but every major county in Texas went blue”
Republicans say they saw a boom of support in President Donald Trump’s impeachment and acquittal, Israel said Democrats cannot allow themselves to be bogged down in the Trump hype, if they hope to take and hold Texas seats.
