The high speed rail debate is playing out at the State Capitol

GOP Representative Ben Leman’s  bill would block high speed rail companies like Texas Central from survey access to private property before raising enough money to complete the project, he faced strong opposition from Jack Drake of the Transportation Advocacy Group.

Texas Central High-Speed Railway’s Travis Kelly called the bill an attempt at stopping high speed rail in Texas.

The company wants to run bullet trains linking Dallas and Houston.

State Representative Steve Toth’s bill would force private high speed rail companies like Texas Central to first have all Federal permits before state agencies could issue permits or allow negotiations for right-of-way access.
