Round Rock continues to be one of the safest cities in Texas, and the latest report from the Round Rock Police Department shows major crimes appear to be on the decline. Chief Allan Banks said there was a noticeable drop in what are called “Part 1 Crimes” last year, which include murder, rape, and aggravated assault, saying last year there was a 8-percent drop in crimes like rape and aggravated assault. And he mentions there was also a significant drop in general thefts.
However, burglaries ticked upward last year compared to 2017. Banks said the number of vehicle thefts was lower last year than in 2017, and “much lower” than it was in 2016.
There were 670 felony arrests last year compared to 622 in 2017. That’s above the city’s five-year average.
