Figuring out what caused this morning’s 3-alarm fire off of 290 and Banister Lane may be difficult. Austin Fire Battalion Chief Thayer Smith said due to the sheer damage the fire caused, plus the fact that the building was still under construction, will make the determination very difficult to figure out.
The fire tore through the construction site, completely demolishing it. Several nearby apartment units were also left unlivable. Three people who had been unaccounted for have since been located. No injuries were reported, but the fire demolished the construction site, power poles, eight cars, and left several adjacent apartment units completely unlivable.
