Thousands filled the streets of Austin for the annual march from the Martin Luther King Statue at the University of Texas to Huston-Tillotson University. They stopped for a brief rally at the State Capitol. Their University President Dr. Colette Pierce Burnette one of the featured speakers…Using King’s own words to inspire today, we must all learn to live together as brothers or we will all perish together as fools. We must remain awake through a great revolution.”
At the University of Texas, Professor Edward Gordon also quoted the civil rights leader. “The arc of the moral universe is long but it bends towards justice.” Gordon said though the world still seems to be unjust, it is edging forward and points to some Austin school name changes away from there confederate namesakes as prrof of progress.
