A trio of Austin City Councilmembers are calling on APD Chief Brian Manley to resign following the weekends protests.
Councilmembers Greg Casar and Jimmy Flannigan were the first to ask Chief Brian Manley to make the decision to turn in his badge, believing its the right move for the city to move past the tumultuous weekend that saw protesters wounded and hospitalized.
Casar told Chief Manley, it’s hard to say, but the people have spoken and he hopes Manley will listen. “So Chief for our City to heal and for our community to make progress, I believe the honorable thing would be for you to resign the position of police Chief.”
Mayor Protem Garza, said due to the waves of citizens who called into the council special session focused on the police response to the protests, she joins Casar and Flannigan, “who’ve asked the Chief to reconsider your role in this organization, including asking for your honorable resignation.” Garza added, she does not know how the city can retain the community’s faith after last weekend.
