Detour Notice

Closure of US 183 To Cause Travel Delays
and Impact Airport Traffic

(Austin, Texas) – Beginning the evening of Friday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. and lasting through Saturday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m., the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (Mobility Authority) will be implementing a temporary complete closure of  US 183 at SH 71. The northbound US 183 ramp to westbound SH 71, and the eastbound SH 71 ramp to northbound US 183 will also be closed.

Traffic will be detoured onto SH 71 and travel delays are anticipated, especially during peak travel times. Drivers heading to Austin Bergstrom International Airport should allow extra time and all drivers should consider taking alternate routes. The temporary roadway closure is necessary to demolish the existing westbound SH 71 bridge over US 183.

DETOUR ROUTES:

  • TO CONTINUE ON NB US 183: Drivers on northbound US 183 approaching SH 71 from the south that want to continue north will exit to eastbound SH 71, take the U-turn at Spirit of Texas Drive, rejoin westbound SH 71 and keep right to access northbound US 183.
  • TO CONTINUE ON SB US 183: Drivers on southbound US 183 approaching SH 71 from the north that want to continue south will exit to westbound SH 71, take the U-turn at Riverside Drive, and keep right to rejoin southbound US 183.
  • FROM NB US 183 TO WB SH 71: Drivers on northbound US 183 wishing to access westbound SH 71 will also exit to eastbound SH 71, take the U-turn at Spirit of Texas Drive and merge left to continue on westbound SH 71.
  • FROM EB SH 71 to NB US 183: Drivers on eastbound SH 71 who wish to access northbound US 183 will continue past the exit and instead take the exit for Spirit of Texas Drive, take the U-turn, rejoin westbound SH 71 and keep right to access northbound US 183.
