TxDOT is going to start shifting traffic on I-35 between Rundberg and 290 down to two lanes in each direction from 9 tonight till 5 Monday morning. TxDOT’s Dianne Hodges said they’ll be demolishing the St. Johns Bridge for improvments to the roadway. But this’ll mean a tight squeeze for the weekend.
Hodges said they’ll also be building u-turn bridges in each direction. if you can avoid that length of I-35 this weekend, you should.
The roads will be opened up during the week, but another weekend lane reduction is scheduled for the end of June.
Some opponents of this change mention that even if Austin wanted to answer congestion issues by building more roads, it just does not have the right amount of space to build new lanes.
Hodges warns the construction isn’t expected to fully wrap up until mid 2021.
