The Travis County Commissioners Court on Tuesday voted in favor of increasing the minimum wage, and to provide across-the-board pay raises for all county employees.

Minimum wage for workers in Travis County had been $15 an hour, but that will now rise to $20 an hour.  As for other employees, they will see pay increases of 5 percent.

“We’re losing a lot of staff to our brethren local governments because they’re able to pay more,” said County Commissioner Brigid Shea.  “This is an essential increase that we’re doing, I don’t think that it’s excessive, and hopefully it will help us fill the vacancies that we have for the crucial work that needs to be done.”

County commissioners will also see their salaries go up to $146,720 in the next fiscal year.  Travis County Judge Andy Brown’s salary will increase to $169,397.

The new wages will take effect on October 1.
