Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi formally launched an impeachment inquiry Tuesday afternoon after mounting pressure from other House Democrats.
The inquiry comes after allegations that President Trump withheld foreign aid from Ukraine unless an investigation into presidential candidate Joe Biden’s son Hunter in regards to his business with Burisma, a natural gas company located in Ukraine.
Travis County Republican Party Chairman Matt Makowiak spoke out against the impeachment inquiry calling it pointless and divisive.
“If anything it’s going to strengthen Trump’s hand politically just as it did Bill Clinton’s hand in 1996, 1997 so knowing what I know today I don’t see how this works out for the Democrats.” says Makowiak.
Makowiak says more attention should be focused on Hunter Biden’s dealings with Burisma and less on what Trump said to the new president of Ukraine.
