The State Senate Finance Committee approved Senate Bill 3 Monday, moving to the Senate floor.

Some Educators voiced their support for the bill, which if passed, would give Classroom teachers a $5000.00  raise starting next year.

Among the supporters, former Austin ISD librarian Sarah Stevenson, but she told the committee schools are more than just teachers and law-makers should keep that in mind.

Other education groups like were hesitant to support the bill, the Texas Association of School Board’s Al Rodriguez told the committee he would support the bill, but only if nothing more could be done to help those working in the education sector

But there were still those flat out opposed to the bill, like one Waxahachie woman who said, teachers are not the only ones suffering in today’s economy, adding,  the money that would fund the teacher pay raises would come out of the tax-payers pocket.
