To educate teen drivers and their passengers about the importance of always wearing a seat belt when riding in a vehicle, TxDOT is visiting six high school campuses across the state in February with its Teen Click It or Ticket campaign. The visit at Cedar Park High School will include demonstrations to show that taking a few seconds to buckle up can save a life.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death among teens in the U.S. In 2022 in Texas, more than half of teens killed in crashes were not wearing a seat belt.
TxDOT’s “Teen Click It or Ticket” campaign is a key component of #EndTheStreakTX, a broader social media and word-of-mouth effort that encourages drivers to make safer choices while behind the wheel to help end the streak of daily deaths. Nov. 7, 2000, was the last deathless day on Texas roadways.
