Update: 3:00pm
A young child has been reunited with his mother and the father is now behind bars after allegedly crashing his car and leaving the boy behind. Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody says he’ll be releasing the man’s name soon. While at a pool, he reportedly told the boy to go play, then got in his car and plowed through a handicapped sign and into a tree before driving away. Hours later, he was arrested and with the help of social media, the boy was returned to the mother, who Chody says was not involved in the crash.
Williamson County authorities have detained a man suspected of fleeing the scene of a car crash and leaving behind his child at a swimming pool.
Sheriff Robert Chody turned to social media Saturday night in hopes of determining the child’s identity because the toddler, about 2 or 3, couldn’t speak for himself and provide information.
It worked and the child’s mom, who authorities say was unaware of the abandonment, was reunited with her child early Sunday.
Officials say the man was at a pool south of Georgetown and told the child to play at a splash pad. The man went to his car, hit a parking sign and tree and fled without the boy.
Chody described the “knucklehead” man as possibly intoxicated.
