ATX District 1-RUNOFF
Sitting Councilmember Ora Houston decided to not run for re-election, leaving her seat open to a wide variety of candidates. With no one candidate getting 50{facfe2172b04f299937824a9c1283369198151460b73c952acd056710c9bd5ea} of the vote the top two candidates will go to a runoff election. Mariana Salazar leads the pack with 25.51{facfe2172b04f299937824a9c1283369198151460b73c952acd056710c9bd5ea} of the vote, she will face off against Natasha Harper-Madison. Houston had thrown her support behind a different candidate, Vincent Harding. He came just short of the runoff with 23.6{facfe2172b04f299937824a9c1283369198151460b73c952acd056710c9bd5ea} of the vote.
ATX District 3-RUNOFF
Councilmember Pio Renteria will again see his sister Susana Almanza this time in a runoff election. Renteria came away with 47.77{facfe2172b04f299937824a9c1283369198151460b73c952acd056710c9bd5ea} of the vote, while Almanza took 21.63{facfe2172b04f299937824a9c1283369198151460b73c952acd056710c9bd5ea}. Renteria claimed a decisive win over Almanza in the 2014 election.
ATX District 5
Councilmember Ann Kitchen ran unopposed and will see another term in office.
ATX District 8-RUNOFF
Austin City Council’s lone conservative on the dais, Ellen Traxclair is not running for reelection, and the other conservative she endorsed, Frank Ward still has a chance to replace her in a runoff election with Paige Ellis. Ellis held the lead the entire election and ended up with 30.43{facfe2172b04f299937824a9c1283369198151460b73c952acd056710c9bd5ea} of the vote, Ward trails by more than 5{facfe2172b04f299937824a9c1283369198151460b73c952acd056710c9bd5ea} in the latest election results.
ATX District 9
Mayor Protem Katie Tovo will keep her seat on the dias after getting 52.78{facfe2172b04f299937824a9c1283369198151460b73c952acd056710c9bd5ea} of the vote.
