The latest figures out of the U.S. Census Bureau show the five-county Austin metro area is the fastest-growing in the nation, and it has remained that way for eight straight years. The new data says the area gained more than 53-thousand people last year, bumping the total population estimate up to nearly 2.2-million. That’s a 2.5-percent increase from 2017.
