Earthquakes in West Texas have spiked in recent years. That’s been confirmed by University of Texas Geophysicists studying nearly 20 years of seismic data that’s been collected. Research Scientist Peter Hennings their study did not directly factor in fracking and other oil and gas activity in their research but he says the overall industry footprint in West Texas has increased dramatically. Hennings says so have the earthquakes, but the vast majority of them could not be felt at the surface, He says no injuries or property damage was done by the quakes.
