With a Williamson County grand jury decision behind them Austin Police puts out their own Chopper footage and their story about the Austin Bomber’s death.
APD Chief Brian Manley said the night Mark Conditt, 23, died, APD SWAT and federal agents were getting ready to close in and make an arrest. But in the end Conditt hit the road first and had law enforcement pin Conditt’s vehicle just off of I-35 in Round Rock.
Manley said as officers moved in to make the arrest Conditt detonated his final bomb. The explosion rocked one officer back, and another fired their weapon at Conditt in response. But in the end Conditt was killed by his own hand. This made him the third and final death in the Austin bombing spree.
The Chief said they held off on putting their video forward until after a Williamson County Grand Jury made a decision on the lone officer firing his weapon that night.
As for Conditt’s confession tape, Chief Manley maintained his previous position and would not release that video for now. He explained the tape could entice others to mimic Conditt’s actions and even learn from his own self-professed mistakes.
However as the investigation continues, Manley added they would consider releasing the tape once the investigation is concluded.
