Volunteers to count Austin’s homeless population

Starting January 2023, the Ending Community Homelessness Coalition (ECHO) will hold an event for volunteers to physically count the homeless in Austin and the Travis County area. The method to count will be done by conducting a one-day survey known as “Point in Time” (PIT).

Care packages will be distributed, according to KXAN, while the surveys are being conducted. The results of these surveys will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for analysis.

Angela De Leon, ECHO Internal Operations manager, said this is an effort to end homelessness. The last time ECHO held this event was in 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
