The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter is calling on the public for some quick help. Officials said Thursday the shelter is currently experiencing a surge of animal intakes. 150 animals have come into the shelter since October 1, which officials said represents a serious concern for the shelter’s ability to provide adequate care for every animal.
“150 animals in just seven days is an enormous amount we simply cannot handle ourselves,” said Misty Valenta, Animal Services Director. “The situation is critical. To provide the level of care expected of us to each individual animal, we must have the community’s support.”
The shelter is pleading with the public to help by adopting, fostering or reuniting lost pets.
The greatest need currently is being seen in fostering animals. First-time fosters for WCRAS can go to http://pets.wilco.org/How-to-Help and fill out the foster application linked there. Experienced dog fosters are asked to come meet with an animal care specialist to match them up with a dog.
Members of the community who find a lost pet are encouraged to work to reunite that pet with his or her family. Studies have shown that a lost pet is usually found within a mile or two of home.
