Austin and Travis County take a step backwards in the fight against coronavirus.
Back to Stage 3 restrictions we go. That announcement today from Health Authority Desmar Walkes who says there is due, in part, to confirmed cases of COVID-19 Delta in the local community.
Dr. Walkes says this increase is once again having an impact on Hospital operations. “At the present time our ICU bed capacity is strained, and largely this is due to the fact that we have a shortage of staff.”
Austin’s Mayor Steve Adler says he knows people are tired of these restrictions, but “we can not pretend we are done with a virus that is not done with us.”
Dr. Walkes and Adler are pleading with the community to take the vaccine, including kids as young as 12. The recommendation is that anyone in a high risk category go back to wearing a mask.
