Austin and Travis County move up another level on the COVID risk chart.
Travis County Health Authority Desmar Walkes says the threshold for Stage 4 is a 7-day average of new hospitalizations of 30. As of today we’re firmly above that benchmark and since July 4 there has been a 203-percent increase in admissions, many of whom are teens and young adults. Walkes says “The number of COVID patients being cared for in our local ICUs has increased nearly 242%.”
For the fully vaccinated she says the recommendation is wearing a mask at all times in public. Those who aren’t, the recommendation is to avoid gatherings and non-essential travel.
