All local school districts are being urged to keep students off-campus following the Thanksgiving break.

Despite evidence showing COVID isn’t spreading in classrooms, there is some showing it’s spreading in sports or carpools. Dr. Jason Pickett with Austin Public Health says if kids are kept home, “That anticipated increase in infection that we will see, associated with Thanksgiving, has it’s time to declare itself.”

So, the recommendation is at least a full week of virtual learning for all students in the Austin area. Austin Independent School District superintendent Stephanie Elizalde is expected to make the final decision on virtual learning today.
