The City of Kyle has been hit harder by coronavirus than any other in Hays County.
Nowhere in Hays County will you find more cases of coronavirus than in Kyle, and unfortunately it’s by a pretty wide margin. And its because of that the city is moving a bit more slowly than the state, but Mayor Travis Mitchell says it’s important to give the city a fighting chance: “Always trying to one step behind the Governor’s [orders] essentially because we had so much exposure to Covid 19 in the City of Kyle.” Mayor Mitchell is keeping pools closed, even though the governor has cleared them to reopen.
As for the high numbers, Mitchell said earlier this month they could also be a result of testing family members who had contact with an infected person. The council is hopeful that big annual events, like Pie in the Sky and 4th of July, will still go on as planned this summer. Right now, Kyle City Hall is set to open June 1.
