Austin’s Mayor and the Texas Governor take to social media to honor America’s fallen and celebrate Memorial Day.

It’s a different kind of Memorial Day and our veterans are dealing with a different set of issues because of the pandemic. Mayor Steve Adler said there is help available.
“The Mayor’s challenge to prevent veteran suicide among service members is currently taking stock of the needs of local veterans in light of the current health crisis.”

The Mayor says he understands why people are struggling this Memorial Day, “we usually get out and have fun with friends and family and I know alot of people are really struggling with the extended uncertainty and isolation.”

The mayor said if anyone is having trouble because of isolation issues, especially veterans, that there is help available and he encourages people to reach out.

Speaking on the balcony of the Governor’s mansion with an American flag behind him, Governor Greg Abbott thanked the servicemembers who gave their lives for our freedom. “Today and everyday we thank them for their sacrifice and for their service.”
He said because of them we live in the greatest country in the world.
