The City of Austin passed a resolution on Thursday’s meeting designating the dance hall Broken Spoke as a historic landmark. The facility has been around in the city since 1964 and is considered a part of “old Austin.”
U.S. Representative Chip Roy spoke at the meeting in support of the resolution. “The Spoke has been part of our community for 60 years,” Roy said. “what are we going to do to make sure that at least the soul of Austin stays intact?”
The designation of the Broken Spoke as a historic landmark will be official by April 2023.
