Austin police chief Brian Manley has fired an officer over an alleged relationship he had with a woman he first met while investigating a stalking call.
In a memo from Manley, he says Officer Jordan Wagstaff responded to the woman’s 911 call back in October 2018. The woman claimed she was being stalked by someone at her local gym.
Wagstaff reportedly met with the woman more than once and began to offer her tips to protect herself, eventually going so far as to offer her lessons at a shooting range. Wagstaff also reportedly gave the woman an APD-issued handgun, which he was not permitted to do.
Eventually, Manley says, their relationship blossomed even further, and while the case was still active, the two would kiss inside of his patrol car while he was on-duty.
When confronted, Wagstaff said he knew that kind of relationship was frowned upon, but he did not realize it was against APD policy.
