A founding member of Austin based Workers Defense Project launched a US Senate bid.

Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez is adding her name to a growing list of Democrats hoping to unseat Senator John Cornyn. In a campaign video released today she touts finding common ground between people.

“I want a government that actually serves our interests and our needs, bringing people together that before, couldn’t see themselves as allies. White and brown and black people, straight and LGBTQ, immigrant and American-born, union and non-union.”

Ramirez feels her background in working with immigrants and coming from an immigrant family, gives her a better opportunity to speak for that audience and younger people of color.

Ramirez’s announcement follows a complaint being filed against Workers Defense, for operating illegally as a labor union.
