The Atlanta Braves announced Wednesday that they have placed All-Star right-handed pitcher Reynaldo Lopez on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. The Braves have recalled RHP Daysbel Hernandez from Triple-A Gwinnett to replace Lopez. Hernandez, 27, is 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA in 10 relief appearances with the Braves.

Lopez, 30, was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Washington Nationals due to tightness in his right shoulder after just one inning. He threw 25 pitches, including 16 strikes, but his fastball velocity was slightly lower than average; the Braves went on to beat Washington 12-0, which kept them tied with the New York Mets for the third National League wild-card spot. The Braves and Mets are also tied for second place in the NL East.

Lopez is in his first season with the Braves, and has an 8-5 record this season with a 2.03 ERA and 137 strikeouts in 24 starts. Lopez is 47-54 with a 3.95 ERA over nine seasons with the Washington Nationals, Chicago White Sox , Los Angeles Angels, Cleveland Guardians (2023) and Braves.
