The Los Angeles Angels are releasing Albert Pujols. Pujols, who signed to the Angels in 2011, is in his final year of his 10-year contract with the team.

Pujols spent 11 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, claiming two World Series championships along the way. The 41-year-old first baseman and designated hitter has garnered many accolades throughout his career, including the National League’s Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player.

The Angels confirmed the team had designated Pujols for reassignment. “The Angels Organization proudly signed Albert Pujols in 2011, and are honored that he has worn an Angels jersey for nearly half of his Hall-of-Fame Career,” the organization tweeted on Thursday.
