Texas is sending 1,000 National Guard soldiers to assist the federal government on the US-Mexico border. “There is an escalating crisis at the border, a crisis Congress is refusing to fix,” said Gov. Greg Abbott in the Friday announcement. Texas Tribune reports the troops will provide assistance at migrant holding facilities in El Paso and the Rio Grande Valley. About 133,000 people were apprehended at the border in May. That figure tops 600,000 for the fiscal year.
I just deployed 1,000 National Guard Troops to the border.
This is needed because more than 45,000 people were apprehended crossing our border illegally in the last 3 weeks.
They come from 52 different countries.
Congress must do its job and fund border security. pic.twitter.com/gIsfOmQKoM
