Amtrak is looking at cutting down long-haul train lines, like the Sunset Limited, a coast to coast line that serves South Texas. the Silver Star line starts in Chicago and serves Texarkana, Dallas Fort Worth, Waco, Austin and San Antonio once a day.
The Journal reports Amtrak’s goal is to cut some of the long-haul lines into several shorter lines that will provide more service to cities. Issues include Congress favoring the long lines, and working with owners of the freight lines Amtrak uses.
