Today marks the first day bills can be filed for the 2019 session of the State Legislature. Legislation to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana is one of the early bills filed that has a real chance of making it to the Governor’s desk.
H-B 63 would classify the crime of possessing less that an ounce would have to pay a $250 fine, currently it is a Class B misdeminor and could land someone 6-months in jail and a $2,000 fine.
State Representative Joe Moody, who authored the bill said that this would make small amounts of possession a ticketable offense, also would have a positive impact on Police focusing on other issues, while also not overcrowding jails.
