A criminal justice reform bill spearheaded by US Senator from Texas John Cornyn awaits the President’s signature. Cornyn says this bill is based on how states like Texas reformed their criminal justice systems.
The bill enjoyed wide bi-partisan support because liberals didn’t like ‘tough on crime’ sentencing because of disproportionately higher rates of minorities being imprisoned while conservatives were weary of the cost to house them all.
