The FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives are both investigating numerous bomb threats that have been made across the country.
At last count, the Austin Police Department has reported two dozen bomb threats made toward businesses and local organizations. Eight reported in Round Rock. Threats have also been reported in Bastrop and San Marcos, however according to local, state, and federal authorities, these have all been deemed to be hoaxes.
These threats are coming in the form of emails that, in many cases, are demanding thousands of dollars be paid in the form of Bitcoins. Police say there have been no evacuations because of these threats, but they are continuing to monitor them as a precaution.
