Federal Judges put a hold on new Texas vote by mail ruling

Vote by mail

There’s another legal setback for Texans hoping to vote by mail during the pandemic. A Federal appeals court in New Orleans has temporarily blocked a lower court decision that would have allowed all Texans to vote by mail.

Back in May, US District Judge Fred Biery ruled in favor of Texas Democrats allowing eligible voters to file a mail in ballot during the pandemic. Now a three judge panel of the 5th Circuit Court of appeals has voted unanimously to temporarily block that decision until a full hearing.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is celebrating the decision, Paxton Spokesman Marc Rylander said, “The 5th Circuit’s unanimous ruling puts a stop to this blatant violation of Texas Law.”

Texas Democrats are considering appealing the decision to the US Supreme Court.
