State lawmakers approved an $11-billion plan to fund public schools.
Governor Greg Abbott says he made some big promises on inauguration day, “We will do what no one thought possible. We will fix school finance in Texas, and I’m proud to tell you that we’ve done exactly that.”
A deal has been reached over bills related to that, the state budget, and property tax reform. As for school funding, Abbott says full-day pre-k will be funded, base per-student funding will also increase, and more than $5-billion will be pumped in to lower school district taxes by about 13-cents per $100. The plan also provides $4000 raises to teachers and employees. Monday is the deadline for final approval.
