Austin Approves New Homeless Shelter in South Austin, Gov. Abbot Signs Bill to Arm Teachers, and Phone Companies Can Now Block Robocalls

The Austin City Council has put a new 2nd homeless shelter on the fast track…

100-beds, in South Austin…and could be up and running in a matter of weeks.

At a State Capitol Press Conference on Thursday Governor Abbott spoke of the advice he gave the Trump administration not to raise tariffs in talks with Mexico over stemming the influx of migrants coming to the US illegally.

Abbott made the argument to Vice President Pence that Texas leads the nation in exports with Mexico and raising tariffs will not be beneficial to the trade situation.

Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden says he can no longer support a congressional ban on using federal health care money to pay for abortions.

Biden’s reversal of position on the Hyde Amendment comes after rivals and women’s rights groups blasted him for affirming through his campaign aides that he still supported it.

U.S. and Mexican officials say they are making progress in their talks to avert the 5{2a63e07d84fe12ceff3a79b3b7d16ceb8565bd2470b26c53e2419132d99be4c6} tariffs on all Mexican goods that President Donald Trump has threatened to impose Monday.

Trump is trying to pressure Mexico into stemming the flow of Central American migrants across America’s southern border. And Trump says much more progress needs to be made.

You now have some serious new ammunition in the ongoing battle against robocalls

Federal regulators have voted to give phone companies the right to block unwanted calls – without needing to get permission from customers first.

The simple dictate by the Federal Communications Commission paves the way for call-blocking efforts to be more widespread, even for those who haven’t taken steps to sign up for apps or services that help ferret out such calls.

The new powers to block unwanted commercial or scam calls would go a long way toward helping us all to dodge more of the billions of robocalls placed to unsuspecting phones nationally.
