Austin City Council Votes for $8.6 Million Homeless Shelter Along with Repealing Homeless Ordinances

  • Despite residents’ concerns the council voted to buy property near an elementary school for the shelter. 
  • Ordinances regarding camping in public, panhandling and sit-and lie will be heavily scaled back when it comes to police enforcing the ordinances. 
  • Austin Police Association Vice President Justin Berry calls in to discuss how the newly repealed homeless ordinances effect the policing and assistance of the homeless.
