Austin’s Proposition A to Require Approval for Groups Use of City-Owned Land

Ballot with choices of "yes" or "no"

  • Austin’s Proposition A is set to make an appearance on the November ballot
  • The proposition would require property taxes or some equivalent payment from groups that lease city-owned land for sports or entertainment
  • It would also require when a facility’s lease comes up for renewal, it be approved by voters along with a super-majority vote (nine out of 11) from the members of the Austin City Council
  • The Austin Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors are against Proposition A as they feel it would cause a high burden on community groups just so they could use city-owned facilities
