- In an expose on the Texas Tribune, a man has been outed as a fraud who claimed he survived the shooting at Santa Fe High School
- Several news outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, Time, and CNN, reported a man, going by David Briscoe, was a substitute teacher who claims he was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time
- A spokeswoman for Santa Fe Independent School District, Lindsey Campbell, told the Texas Tribune there was no record of anyone named David Briscoe being employed by the district in any capacity
- Briscoe stated he was teaching a remedial English course when shots first rang out but the Tribune found this contradicted the reports from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office as the shooting was contained to the art rooms
- The Texas Tribune found that there was no record of Briscoe ever living in Texas and he had a home address in Florida during the shooting
