- The National Golf Foundation put out a study commissioned by the Austin Parks and Recreation Department that recommends the city of Austin consider restoring Hancock Golf Course to make it a modern golf learning center
- The study also makes other recommendations which would address golf operations, help improve efficiency and overall improve conditions that would allow for more potential in the market
- It was also found that Lions Municipal, along with Hancock, do not generate more revenue than it costs to run them
- Hancock Golf Course would require more than $700,000 to repair and improve conditions as much of it is in decline and antiquated, according to the study
- A suggestion for saving the historical integrity of Hancock would be to enter into an agreement with a private entity that would be able to invest the funds required to transform the course into a modern golf learning facility
- Senator Kirk Watson has sponsored legislation, Senate Bill 2553, that would create the Save Historic Muny District in order to preserved the course
- The district would have a board of directors which would include: the executive directors of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the Texas Historical Commission, the Texas State Preservation Board, the Texas Golf Hall of Fame, Preservation Texas and the Texas director of the Nature Conservancy and the Mayor of Austin
