Monday 4-21

Only six months after installing new bike lanes, the city of Austin will have to spend thousands of dollars to remove them after nearby residents pushed back against the bike lanes, multiple plans are being developed in the Texas Legislature to bring property tax relief to residents and a new report shows Texas leading the nation in employment.

 

Tuesday 4-22

AISD officials continue to blame the state for poor results and the possible closing of Dobie Middle School, the Austin City Council is expected to approve the purchase of an office building for $26 million and Travis County officials report a 36% drop in fentanyl deaths.

 

Wednesday 4-23

An audit has revealed that top officials with the Austin Police Department don’t have a long-term plan for recruiting, Austin’s Homeless Strategy office will begin putting $2.2 million dollars into more support services for the homeless and the use of E-Verify by employers may become mandated by the state of Texas.

 

Thursday 4-24

Dobie Middle School gets a brief reprieve from the Texas Education Agency, local community leaders are trying to tamp down on the youth violence rising in Travis County and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is demanding documents from Plano ISD in relation to the EPIC City development.

 

Friday 4-25

Multiple school districts in Texas are pushing back against the state after the Texas Education Agency released performance ratings for school districts, the Austin Police Oversight Committee has released a report saying complaints against police are on the rise and an appeals court has ruled in favor of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and his lawsuit against cities that have approved marijuana decriminalization ordinances.
