Austin school district reiterating its sanctuary status for illegal immigrants

This first came to prominence early last year when the Austin teachers union Education Austin began a push for a resolution from the school board to officially deem the district a sanctuary, which was later adopted.  As the new school year approaches, AISD is again trying to get the word out that illegal immigrant students will be given safe harbor on all of its campuses.

It’s possible the board could take more action to protect some of the students because, according to the Austin Monitor, AISD officials are expecting some of them to enter the schools with what they call a new trauma they say stems from families being separated while illegally trying to sneak across the U.S. border.
