Austin Utility officials say a scam is making the rounds where customers are getting voice messages from people claiming to be with the city or electric company demanding payment with a pre-paid card or have their utilities cut off immediately.
Officials say that’s not how they operate, adding if you get a call like this to hang up and call 3-1-1 and report it.
